Velvet peplum top

I loved the royal blue color and was very hopeful to add this top to my holiday wardrobe. I am 5'8" and size 16 so ordered the XL. Most XL/Size 16 clothing at J Crew fits quite well. I tried on this top with a pair of jeans, and the velvet ruffle was far too high on my waist. I have several peplum tops that fit lower on my hips, giving the illusion that my waist is more narrow. This flat portion of the shirt hit far too high (I am high waisted and the shirt appeared to hit higher than my waist), and the ruffle was far too high, too. Perhaps this works better for women with less curve, but I felt a bit clown-y in this top.

I thought twice about buying this top because it’s black with velvet. But it’s just what my cut off jeans needed! I want to wear this top everyday. I feel so pretty and it camouflages my slight imperfections perfectly lol

I got this top in 3 colors. The peplum bit flares out at kind of an odd spot on my hip (because I am short-waisted), but this is still a well-made top I will get a lot of use of with denim bottoms or work type pants.

I like the top very cute on. I can wear it with jeans, or a shirt.

I usually love peplum tops because they create a nice hourglass shape and fit my body well. I have a larger waist and a small waist (36C, size 25 or a 0). I bought this top in blue and white, in my usual size (small) thinking it would be flattering, however, it was not. The top is fitted in the chest area and then just puffs out. It makes me look bigger than I actually am and provides no shape. One of the tops also arrived with a small rip in it.
