Nice Shirt, comfortable, great styling
January 12, 2024Purchased shirt right before the holidays after it was back in stock. Interesting twist on a regular button-up dress shirt I usually wear - love the ruffles at the neck and the longer cuffs with extra buttons and they aren’t too much - just nice and interesting. Have worn with cardigans and crew neck sweaters. Material is soft and not too thick - so will be able to wear into summer and many ways. Blue is great color. Went back and bought the black/white version, too. I was between a 6 and an 8. Got the blue in 8 and the black in 6 (all they had available). Both washed well and can hardly tell the difference in the sizes.

Unfortunately Unflattering
December 28, 2023I wore the shirt once and it looked odd. Put it on a second time and realized it was one of the most unflattering shirt styles I have ever purchased. Flowing in all the wrong places so it made me look dumpy. I loved the fabric though. Unfortunately this has going to the giveaway. I love my J Crew blouses but this was a miss.

Wanted to love
November 4, 2023J Crew updated the fabric content from its previous "cotton" designation, and after receiving it I see that it's the same "crinkle" fabric used in a 2021 piece, AW262 (the info on the 2021 shirt's actual tags don't match its web listing and are identical to those on the 2023 version). I put up with a lot of trouble from that shirt because I liked the color so much. Mini garden gingham is the only color I've found that looks good on me AND that I like (warm skin tone here who hates earthy drabs and pastels). The fabric wrinkles from the sheer weight of its existence (yes it is slightly sheer), and the black and navy squares shrink/stretch differently (the shirt overall didn't shrink noticeably) when washed (I do cold water/usually line dry but both say tumble dry low) so the squares puckered a lot and made it impossible to iron. The usual tricks don't make the shirt presentable either. And while the fabric never pilled, its unremovable peach fuzz grew reliably, and I just... kept wearing it, because... it doesn't show up on Zoom, right? But this time, the color can't carry the shirt. The photos obscure J Crew's hideous signature "relaxed" arm with giant armhole, which, on this shirt, in spite of being neither flesh-coloured nor generally flesh-like, resurfaced a memory of mine in which someone told me I had flippers for arms. I have since lost the weight, but this shirt adds it back in a way that the current oversized trend does not. These are not the dainty bishop sleeves I dreamed of wearing to work! I usually wear 00-2 in J Crew and took this in 0, but I don't want to size down because I found the wrist cuffs extremely tight. I liked the length aside from the ~4" rounded side slits. No complaints about the ruffle neck, however! They are not attention-grabbing.

Didn’t love
October 28, 2023Something about the print with the really blousy cut just didn’t work. It looked cheap on. It’s fine there’s nothing wrong with it it just looked like a cheaper shirt you’d wear for a season but wouldn’t stand the test of time. Took my smaller of two sizes.
