770 Straight-fit jean in Riverton wash
not as skinny as the 484 (our slimmest fit). For our denim fabric we went to the Kaihara mill, one of Japan's oldest and most renowned denim producers. This wash replicates a once-washed pair, which is great for the guy who likes the dark denim look but not the whole idea of rigid jeans. Go behind the design of our denim washes.

What customers are saying:
Customers are really excited about the 770 jeans, highlighting their versatile style, excellent quality denim, and comfortable yet flattering fit. They appreciate that the jeans work well from casual outings to office settings and that the classic dark indigo washes remain timeless. Many customers also love how these jeans cater to different builds, ensuring a great overall fit and durability. While a few have suggested trying a size up or noted that the raw denim can feel a bit stiff at first, the overwhelmingly positive feedback speaks for itself.

What happened to the 770?!
December 24, 2018I've been buying the 770 fit jeans and corduroys for my husband since 2013. They were his preferred fit, as he didn't like the skinnier ankles of the 484, and I didn't like the bagginess of the 1040s. The rear and thighs of the 770s skimmed just so and made him look put together despite wearing jeans. I have no idea what happened in the last year, but the thighs and rear of the 770s have become a larger cut, and I assure you my husband's thighs are not shrinking. Compared directly to his older pairs of jeans/cords, the thighs are cut at least 1.5 inches wider than before. The thighs/rear might as well be 1040s at this point, although the ankle leg openings are still acceptable. Perhaps they would have fit after shrinking in the wash, but we didn't keep them to find out. I'm not sure if this is J.Crew's way of vanity sizing men's clothing, but I will unfortunately have to find another place for husband's pants.

Perfect Jeans
October 17, 2018I bought a pair of these, and they are the best fitting/looking jeans I own. I wish J Crew weren't fazing the Riverton wash out in favor of the stretch resin rinse, which feels flimsy in comparison. Please bring the Riverton wash back!!

Last of the "old" Jcrew jean lot
October 2, 2018As you might notice from the on-figure shots, this model carries the old Jcrew waist patch - signifying it's part of the old fit and denim fabric from Kaihara. It's NOT stretch, and has more heft and weft than the newer jcrew/jean stretch Karubo fabric. This 770 model is straight fit, but much slimmer than the 1040, with a higher rise than the 484. Break-in is straightforward and the wear is consistent with nice crocking. I really wish they retained this fabric as well as Cone denim (maybe for Wallace & Barnes to differentiate it from their core offering). Anyway, you won't go wrong. Get 'em while you can.

Awesome Denim!
September 25, 2018I have several pairs of the 770 denim jeans in different washes and they're all really nice. Being 6'6", I'm so glad that J. Crew carries the 34x36 size. The 770 style has the perfect taper in the legs. The weight of the denim is substantial so they don't stretch out of shape by the end of the day. These are without a doubt the best jeans I've owned.
