True straight jean in a beautifully soft denim!
September 11, 2026I was hoping these would fit just a bit more relaxed, but they are a nice straight jean. I tried on the Jesse jean in store, but did not love the distressed areas on pocket. So based on another review I assumed these would fit the same. The Jesse actually is a bit longer in the rise and a bit more relaxed than the western straight. I purchased size 28 and while the fit is exactly perfect, I had hoped for a looser fit...probably would have liked the 29 a bit better. The size that worked for me in the Jesse was a 28 and it had a loose fit...the 29 was just too big in the crotch area. I love the denim on the western straight...it is so soft and just feels great on the body. I bought on final sale, so I will wear them as they do fit perfectly...just not the fit I was searching for. These are a true straight fit, and a bit lower than a mid rise, in my opinion, but still a nice quality jean. I am 5'8" and 140ish pounds with a rectangular figure, just for reference. The length is absolutely perfect for my height.

Lovely but they run super small!
August 12, 2026These are such nice jeans—great wash, great weight, great length. But, holy smokes, do they run SMALL! My usual size (final sale, online order) feels at least two sizes too small. I can’t even button them. I do not have this issue with any of my other J.Crew jeans, with or without stretch. Either I got a pair with an incorrect size label, or these are cut for a slender-thighs, straight-hips, flat-butt body type. Order up a size or two if you’re at all curvy.

Get it before its gone
August 5, 2026Similar to the Levis 90s straight. Mid weight denim with no stretch. This is not a loose fitting jean, it has a more classic mid rise and straight cut. Hugs the body but doesnt constrict, its slightly relaxed especially on the thighs. I found it TTS for this style. And almost identical in fit to the new Jesse jean (even their descriptions are almost word for word.) But without the annoying fake-distressed spots. Now at a fraction of the price of the Jesse, and with a half inch longer inseam. Yes!! Wish it came in more washes. The cut is perfectly vintage.
